Summer BMX fever in Ljubljana
BMX Race Ljubljana powered by Mastercard is more than just exciting racing, the event has once again raised the level of the regional competition with lots of side events, meanwhile the organizers are already looking towards a new qualification period for the upcoming Olympic Games. This time in Ljubljana, the cream of the crop was picked up by the Hungarian Barnabás Kiss (Gencsapati KSE BMX), the winner of both prestigious races in the 17+ category.
Racing in BMX Park Ljubljana was once again at a high level, especially in the senior categories, i.e. in the 15/16 years and over 17 years categories. Several times the winner was also decided by a photo finish, which is truly extraordinary, if we are aware that racing in Ljubljana is practically a 300-meter sprint over bumps, jumps and bands. All of these happened at the high temperature, as Slovenia is in full summer mode.
BMX Race Ljubljana powered by Mastercard is part of the Slovenian Cup and of course also part of the dr. Auer BMX Alpe-Adria regional cup, which this year did not bring as strong a turnout as in previous years. Regardless, the quality of the competitors was once again at a high level, even in the most numerous categories of 11/12 and 13/14 years, the racing is very exciting.

In the 17+ category Barnabás Kiss won twice, although with a small advantage and without a real series of victories in the motos. The highest-placed Slovenian was Val Trinle Lampič (Bikehanic-Lumar), who was fourth on Saturday, and on Sunday he finished the race one place higher, on the lowest step of the winners’ podium. Val Trinle can also boast of winning the first moto of Saturday’s race.
After three consecutive victories in the motos of Saturday’s race in the 15- and 16-year-old category, Mak Breznik Falk (Bikehanic-Lumar) was only fourth in the final. At the very start of the final, he was a little too slow, which his rivals took advantage of with open arms and closed him down. Mak returned triumphantly in Sunday’s race, winning all the motos and the final, and deservedly stepped onto the very top of the winners’ podium.

BMX week in the capital began a week ago with the national BMX Race championship, while the bigger international BMX race was enriched by the number of side events, including pump track event Argeta Junior KoloPark Cup, a time trial competition and a jump competition. BMX Park Ljubljana itself is also upgraded every year, the surroundings are now also landscaped, and new trees have been planted.
After two racing weekends in Ljubljana, the BMX track goes into established rhythms with regular training and campsites, and organizers from the Cycling club Rajd are already looking at the 2026 season, when they want more international competition in Ljubljana.
Sponsors and partners of the events in BMX Parku Ljubljana are City of Ljubljana, Mastercard, Zavarovalnica Triglav, Lumar, Sinter, Factory Store, Extreme Vital, Bikehanic, Ford, Resalta, Staystrong, Ljubljana je šport & Slovenian cycling federation.
